This Development Policy Operation with a Catastrophe Deferred Drawdown Option (Cat DDO) supports the Republic of the Marshall Islands to (i) enhance fiscal management and (ii) build disaster and climate resilience. Policy actions include establishing core public financial management and procurement processes, and strengthening the disaster and climate policy framework via the Disaster Risk Management Act (2023), a Sea Level Rise Adaptation Policy, and a forthcoming National Building Act/Code.

The project supports sustainable coastal and blue economy development by combining policy and institutional reforms with targeted urban investments. Components include (i) development and adoption of spatial planning, tourism and environmental policies and a carbon market framework; (ii) upgrading the Belize City wastewater treatment plant to reduce land-based pollution; (iii) expansion of the potable water network in South San Pedro; and (iv) a solid waste management pilot in San Pedro, alongside project management and a contingent emergency response.

The development objective of the Forest Sector Modernization and Coastal Resilience Enhancement Project for Vietnam was to improve coastal forest management in the Project Provinces. The project had three technical components in addition to a fourth component on project management, monitoring, and evaluation. The first component modernized the technical know how and approaches used for planning, supplying seedlings, and financing coastal protection forest management and planting.

Panama Second Climate Resilience and Green Growth DPL

The development objective is to establish policy foundations to foster low-emission and sustainable economic growth and climate change resilience. The DPL will support reforms to enhance climate planning and governance, including those that promote plans and programs to restore terrestrial and marine areas to provide protection from storm surges.

Host and Rohingya Enhancement of Lives Project

The project aims to improve access to basic services and enhance disaster and climate resilience of the Host Communities and Displaced Rohingya Population (DRP). The project will support afforestation in host communities and refugee camps in Bangladesh's Cox Bazaar district to enhance resilience against extreme weather events, as well as consider NBS to protect water sources as part of water supply infrastructure plans.

Enhancing the Climate Resilience of the West Coast Road

The objective of the Enhancing the Climate Resilience of the West Coast Road (WCR) Project for Samoa was to: (i) improve the climate resilience of the West Coast Road; and (ii) enhance local capacity to develop a more climate resilient road network. There were three components to the project, the first component being Improving Climate Resilience of the WCR. This component implemented measures to strengthen the climate resilience of the economically critical WCR, which is a key Government of Samoa (GoS) objective under the Strategic Program for Climate Resilience (SPCR).
