  • Briefs, Notes & Case Studies
This Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) assessment examines the long-term economic, environmental, and social implications of the Bogotá River Environmental Recuperation and Flood Control Project, implemented with a loan from the World Bank. Carried out by the International Institute for Sustainable Development in collaboration with the World Bank, the assessment evaluates the performance of the interventions implemented in the middle basin. It also explores how hybrid infrastructure combining conventional grey works and naturebased infrastructure (NBI) adds value to the project. Beyond assessing the project impacts, the analysis seeks to inform future planning and emphasize the importance of basin-wide perspectives for effective river restoration.
  • Guidance
Coastal zones are increasingly at risk from the combined effects of climate change, sea-level rise, intensifying storms, ecosystem degradation, and rapid coastal development. While traditional gray infrastructure has long been used for coastal protection, it is often costly, environmentally damaging, and increasingly insufficient under growing hazard conditions. Nature-based solutions (NBS) such as mangroves, dunes, reefs, and marshes offer a complementary and cost-effective approach to coastal resilience, reducing risks while benefitting biodiversity, livelihoods, and carbon storage.
  • Guidance
Focused on nature-based solutions (NBS) for climate resilience and disaster risk reduction, this guide provides countries with approaches to address complex climate-related challenges while generating important socioeconomic benefits. Traditional conservation and restoration practices are also considered NBS when they aim for resilience or disaster risk reduction alongside human well-being. This guide focuses on NBS for climate resilience and disaster risk reduction (DRR).
  • Report
This report assesses opportunities to increase private sector participation and financing for climate adaptation and nature-based infrastructure in Emerging and Developing Economies (EMDEs). Climate change is intensifying hydrological variability, coastal storms, and heatwaves, and these effects are anticipated to intensify as global temperatures continue to rise in the coming decades.
  • Report
Small Island Developing States are among the least responsible for climate change – yet, they stand to suffer the most in terms of negative impacts. Despite contributing less than one percent of greenhouse gas emissions, small island developing states are highly vulnerable to tropical cyclones, hurricanes, storm surges, and droughts. From 1970 to 2020, these states lost US$153 billion due to weather, climate, and water-related hazards.
