groundwater recharge & water table stabilization

The project will promote community-led nature-based solutions to climate change adaptation in the Usangu catchment by financing rainwater harvesting and storage facilities, boreholes, rehabilitation of small check/charco dams to reduce channel erosion and gullying, river training to enhance flows and reduce flooding, tree planting for catchment conservation, and village land use plans for sustainable landscape management.

The project develops multiuse water sources, climate-smart agriculture and livestock services, and environmental catchment services to strengthen rural resilience in Somalia’s drylands. It finances construction and rehabilitation of water points (e.g., sand/subsurface dams, berkads, hafir dams, boreholes), nature-based solutions for watershed-scale restoration and recharge, and community-centered planning and livelihoods support.

The project will strengthen dam safety and improve management of water resources for hydropower and irrigation in selected areas of Nigeria.

The project will increase access to water supply and sanitation services and improve service delivery capacity in selected areas of the Kyrgyz Republic through a 10‑year Multiphase Programmatic Approach.

The project will strengthen the management of water resources and increase access to improved drinking water and sanitation services in selected regions by financing: (i) mobilization and management of water resources for multiple uses (including rehabilitation of large and small dams and hydrometric systems); (ii) expansion of urban and rural water supply systems; (iii) sanitation and hygiene services including fecal sludge treatment plants and institutional WASH; and (iv) institutional strengthening and project management, with a Contingent Emergency Response Component for shocks.

This component focuses on incorporating innovative technologies in community-based sustainable NRM. Subcomponents include (a) addressing climate change impacts on water resources and agriculture by promoting innovative climate-smart NRM technologies and (b) alleviating negative impacts of environmental degradation and climate change on livelihoods.

The project financed a cash-for-trees program which part of an erosion prevention activity that provided incentives for smallholders to reforest their lands in the watersheds surrounding the irrigated areas.

The project worked to fund community-led development projects, and build capacity for improved land management practices.
