Niger

The project will improve climate-resilient road connectivity and enable value-chain logistics development in southern Niger by financing rehabilitation of the RN1 Maradi–Zinder section (bitumen), associated secondary and rural roads, and logistics-enabling measures; strengthening institutions and project management (with HEIS); and providing a Contingent Emergency Response Component for shocks. The design integrates climate-resilient road standards, drainage and safety, and targeted support to logistics services linked to agricultural value chains and sub‑regional trade 

The development objective of Agricultural and Livestock Transformation Project for Niger is to increase agriculture productivity and access to markets for small and medium farmers and agri-food small and medium enterprises in the participating project regions.

The Regional Sahel Pastoralism Support Project II aims to improve the resilience of pastoralists and agro-pastoralists in the Sahel region. The project promotes sustainable landscape management, including the rehabilitation of ponds and riverbanks, to support water resource sustainability and enhance livelihoods in targeted areas.

The Niger Integrated Water Security Platform Project aims to strengthen water resources management, increase access to water services, and improve resilience to climate-induced water variability in select areas of Niger. The project supports watershed restoration activities, including reforestation, land restoration, and agroforestry, while also expanding rural water supply, sanitation, and public sanitation infrastructure. Key components focus on integrated investments, institutional capacity building, and enabling flexible disaster response mechanisms.

The Niger Integrated Urban Development and Multi-sectoral Resilience Project aims to enhance flood resilience, improve urban management, and expand access to basic services in selected municipalities in Niger. The project includes flood risk reduction measures, such as drainage infrastructure and sand dune fixation, as well as urban greening to mitigate temperatures and preserve forests. These initiatives promote sustainable urban development and improve resilience in vulnerable communities.

The Niger Community Action Project for Climate Resilience aims to improve the resilience of populations and production systems to climate change in targeted Communes. The project focuses on mainstreaming climate resilience into development strategies, integrating resilience practices into agro-sylvo-pastoral systems, and ensuring effective coordination and monitoring of project activities. These interventions aim to enhance adaptation to climate variability and protect vulnerable communities.

The objective of the Disaster Risk Management and Urban Development Project for the Republic of Niger is to improve the country's resilience to natural hazards.

The Government of Niger recognizes the importance of holistic land and water resource management to improve local population’s resilience to drought and flood. To this end, the Community Action Project for Climate Resilience project was established with World Bank support. It aims to achieve this by mainstreaming climate resilience into development strategies at national and local levels, and by integrating climate resilience practices into agro-sylvo-pastoral systems and local populations’ social protection measures.
