The project will strengthen climate and disaster risk management capacity and reduce flood risks in selected cities in the Democratic Republic of Congo by financing resilient urban infrastructure (e.g., stormwater drainage, culverts, canals, bridges, and retention basins) and institutional strengthening across national, provincial, and local levels. It includes components for resilient infrastructure in targeted cities, DRM capacity building, project management, and a Contingent Emergency Response Component to enable rapid reallocation of funds in case of eligible emergencies

The project development objective is to improve institutional capacity for urban management and access to select infrastructure and services, as well as to socio-economic opportunities in Kinshasa. The project will build urban resilience by implementing nature-based drainage solutions (improved infiltration) for roads and designing green public spaces.

The development objectives of the Kananga Emergency Urban Resilience Project for Democratic Republic of Congo are to safeguard houses and critical infrastructure affected by gully erosion in Kananga and strengthen the capacity of the recipient’s government and local organizations in erosion management and climate resilient urban planning. The project comprises of four components.

The development objective of the Forest and Savanna Restoration Investment Program Project for Congo, Democratic Republic of is to improve forested landscape management and enhance community livelihoods in selected project areas. The project comprises of five components. The first component, improved land use planning and governance for natural resource management in selected project areas aims to support the seven targeted provinces in developing comprehensive land use plans at all administrative levels with a focus on sustainable development and safeguarding forest ecosystems.

This project supports resilient and sustainable connectivity across selected provinces in the Kasai region and eastern DRC. Activities include improving road and aviation infrastructure, developing digital connectivity, and implementing environmental measures like forest management, vehicle emission control, and gender empowerment programs.

The development objective of the Climate-Resilient and Inclusive Livelihoods Project for Republic of Congo is to strengthen landscape management and increase the use of improved livelihood activities in targeted communities. The project comprises of five components. The first component, strengthening capacity of institutions and promoting social cohesion will finance activities supporting institutional and community capacity to build inclusive livelihoods in a changing climate and ensure inclusive participation in such processes.

The Northern Congo Agroforestry Project aims to strengthen climate-smart agriculture and conservation practices in Community Development Zones in the departments of Sangha and Likouala. The project includes activities to establish tree nurseries, provide seedlings, and promote sustainable forest resource management and agroforestry practices to enhance resilience and biodiversity conservation.
