Coastal zones are increasingly at risk from the combined effects of climate change, sea-level rise, intensifying storms, ecosystem degradation, and rapid coastal development. While traditional gray infrastructure has long been used for coastal protection, it is often costly, environmentally damaging, and increasingly insufficient under growing hazard conditions. This Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) assessment examines the long-term economic, environmental, and social implications of the Bogotá River Environmental Recuperation and Flood Control Project, implemented with a loan from the World Bank. Carried out by the International Institute for Sustainable Development in collaboration with the World Bank, the assessment evaluates the performance of the interventions implemented in the middle basin. It also explores how hybrid infrastructure combining conventional grey works and naturebased infrastructure (NBI) adds value to the project. Beyond assessing the project impacts, the analysis seeks to inform future planning and emphasize the importance of basin-wide perspectives for effective river restoration.
Access to actionable information that outlines opportunities for nature-based solutions (NBS) investments at early stages of project design is essential for enabling the scale up of these solutions, which can effectively reduce climate risks, while bringing important socioeconomic benefits. This report summarizes how the Nature-Based Solutions Opportunity Scan (NBSOS) can support the World Bank, its clients, and development partners to identify NBS investment opportunities, understand the associated benefits, and integrate these interventions into projects.

This methodology includes processes for tracking project attributes that can be used to evaluate overall trends of MDB-led NBS projects in the region. This methodology provides a foundation to make actionable recommendations for MDBs to scale up NBS adoption in the region.
