Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria Project
The project will strengthen dam safety and improve management of water resources for hydropower and irrigation in selected areas of Nigeria.
The project will strengthen dam safety and improve management of water resources for hydropower and irrigation in selected areas of Nigeria.
The project will improve rural access and the climate resilience of communities in targeted rural areas across Nigeria, and strengthen institutional capacity for managing the rural road network.
The development objective of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project for Nigeria is to increase the implementation of sustainable landscape management practices in targeted watersheds in northern Nigeria and strengthen Nigeria’s long-term enabling environment for integrated climate-resilient landscape management. The project comprises of four components. The first component, dryland management will implement integrated watershed management planning and addresses challenges of large-scale watershed degradation in northern Nigeria.
The Nigeria COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Project aims to prevent, detect, and respond to COVID-19 threats at the state level in Nigeria. The project focuses on emergency response, containment, and mitigation strategies while supporting public-private partnerships to enhance climate-resilient health infrastructure. Key activities include creating green spaces through tree planting around facilities to mitigate heat and improve environmental conditions.
The Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Environment, state and local governments, is implementing this project to reduce the vulnerability to soil erosion in targeted sub-watersheds. The multi-sectoral project will finance interventions to prevent and reverse land degradation on a demand-driven basis, initially focusing on gully erosion sites in southeastern states that threaten infrastructure and livelihoods.
The project used the restoration of vegetative cover and sustainable management of watersheds to reduce erosion and disaster risks.
