Ningbo Sustainable Urbanization Project

Submitted by mfernandes on

The operation supported integrated urban regeneration, mobility, and flood risk management in selected counties of Ningbo Municipality (Xiangshan, Ninghai, Fenghua). Flood Risk Management (Component 3) combined structural measures—renovation and upgrading of rain grates/inlets/outlets and drainage pipes, restoration of natural stormwater drainage systems, construction of pumping stations—and low‑impact development (LID) demonstrations in suitable public areas, alongside non‑structural measures such as early‑warning systems, emergency preparedness planning, land‑use plan adjustments, and improvements to flood insurance. Across the project, urban transport investments improved peak‑hour bus speeds and user satisfaction, while flood investments reduced flooded area within 24 hours after major rain events and expanded drainage service coverage. Restructurings in 2020 and 2021 adjusted component costs, updated indicators, raised the disbursement percentage for civil works to 100%, and extended the closing date to enable full achievement of results
