Increasing finance for nature-based solutions is critical for the successful implementation of the climate, biodiversity, and development goals. Despite its importance, there is an estimated financing gap for nature investments of US$700 billion per year. This session brought together diverse voices to unpack the key issues to close this gap.

During COP27, the World Bank and the African Development Bank hosted a session focused on scaling up the use of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prominent leaders emphasized the urgency of action, stating:
GPNBS presented an overview of NBS at the World Bank during the conference, which occurred from November 14-18 in Fiji. The session included highlights on efforts to mainstream NBS across the World Bank, key takeaways from the portfolio, and a presentation on NBS for integrated urban flood management.

In early October, GPNBS participated in the 'Development Finance Forum' in Frankfurt, Germany, on the connection between climate and biodiversity protection. The Development Finance Forum is KfW Development Bank's most important expert forum that regularly focuses on a current topic related to development cooperation.

Mountainous regions globally face distinct climate-related challenges due to their complex geographies, with natural hazards posing major risks to communities, infrastructure, and livelihoods. In many places, nature-based solutions (NBS) can help address these risks while bringing co-benefits for biodiversity and the local economy.
