Past Events

Design-driven approaches in early project preparation can help enable the implementation of integrated, holistic projects that address multiple resilience challenges at once, including with nature-based solutions (NBS).

Ports are crucial for global trade and particularly vital for low- and middle-income countries, handling over 11 billion tons of goods annually and supporting millions of jobs worldwide. Yet, ports increasingly face challenges in balancing efficiency, climate resilience, and sustainability.

Drawing upon field experiences in Bangladesh and Vietnam, this ‘Voices from the Field’ session explores how Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) are being applied to strengthen resilience and manage climate risks in vulnerable coastal areas.

Nature-based solutions are effective and adaptive interventions that can boost climate resilience in cities and along coastlines. To identify NBS investment opportunities, the Global Program on Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience, a thematic area of the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, has developed the NBS Opportunity Scan.

Global digital public goods (DPGs)—such as open-source methodologies, standardized resilience assessments, and user-friendly platforms—offer efficient and scalable tools to understand and address urban resilience challenges like flooding, extreme heat, urban biodiversity loss and rapid urbanization.
